The Forgotten Love | Revelation 2:1–7
In this message from Revelation 2:1–7, we explore one of Jesus’ most sobering and tender warnings to His church: it is possible to remain faithful in service, sound in doctrine, and persevering through hardship while gradually losing your love for Him. Writing to the believers in Ephesus, Jesus commends their hard work, endurance, and commitment to truth, yet He exposes a deeper problem—they had forsaken their first love. Through the powerful imagery of Christ as the Bridegroom and the church as His bride, this sermon reminds us that Christianity is far more than duty, performance, or religious activity. At its heart is a loving relationship with Jesus. We examine how spiritual indifference slowly develops, how discontent and distrust can reveal a cooling affection for Christ, and how our relationship with others often reflects our relationship with Him. Most importantly, we discover Christ’s gracious invitation to remember, repent, and return. No matter how far we have drifted, Jesus still delights in His people, welcomes repentant hearts, and calls us back to experience His love again. This message is an invitation to move beyond mere religious activity and rediscover the joy of being deeply loved by Christ and loving Him in return.
