More Than the Temple
In this unique and often overlooked miracle from Matthew 17, Jesus demonstrates His divine authority and provision in an unexpected way—through a coin found in a fish’s mouth. But this sermon goes far beyond the miracle itself. It reveals a deeper message about freedom, identity, and trust. Jesus teaches that those who belong to Him are truly free—no longer bound by religious systems or external obligations. Yet, in love, we may choose to limit that freedom in order to serve others and remove barriers to faith. This message also reminds us that following Jesus often requires sacrifice—loving, forgiving, and serving others comes at a cost. The good news is that Jesus never calls us to give without also providing what we need. Just as He provided for Peter, He supplies grace, strength, and resources for every act of obedience. Ultimately, this sermon points us to the greater truth: Jesus Himself is greater than the temple—He is God with us, the final sacrifice, and the source of unending life. If you’ve ever felt like you don’t have enough to give, this message will encourage you to trust that in Christ, you already have everything you need.
